Some vested interests are tarnishing the noble image of Islam and using it to perpetuate terrorism across the world, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has warned.
In his Eid Al-Fitr address to the citizens, expatriates and the Muslims worldwide, King Abdullah said the Kingdom has taken several measures to root out the scourge of terrorism and to protect the country’s security and stability.
The Eid, he said, is an occasion to rejoice at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The King extended his best wishes for the Eid to world Muslims.
“The Muslim Ummah should steadfastly strive to defeat the forces who are maligning the noble and…

(KNX 1070) — Gov. Jerry Brown has declared a drought state of emergency in California, calling on all Californians to cut back their water use by 20 percent. It is a last kindness. A man in camouflage takes out a knife and severs the horn of a rhinoceros, depriving the animal of its most iconic feature. The poachers who have killed this animal have fled, leaving behind their prize: the keratin that makes up the horn. It’s a substance so valued for its use in traditional Asian medicine that vast numbers of rhinos are being slaughtered for it. Severing the horn will keep it off the black market. Even in death, the rhino must be maimed to be saved.
That’s a measure of just how dire the present has become for the rhinos and elephants of Africa. After years of relative calm, trafficking in species like elephants and rhinos doubled from 2007 to 2013, largely to meet the growing demand for ivory and other animal products from the rising consumer class of Asia. By some estimates, wildlife trafficking…

Something about him is so sexy. Whew Mr. Putin
Here are two words Californians should say to Vladimir Putin: thank you.
California, with its historic reliance on defense-related industries, never quite recovered from the end of the Cold War. Today, Los Angeles has fewer jobs than it did in 1990. Fortunately, Putin seems intent on giving us a new Cold War.
Let’s stipulate that Putin’s crushing of dissent at home, his seizing of the Crimea, his wars against Ukraine and Georgia, and his bullying of European neighbors are bad for the peace and security of the world. But all this Russian madness—not to mention the threatening, nationalistic expansionism of Putin’s Chinese ally President Xi Jinping—presents an opportunity for California.
The belligerence of Russia and China could boost a host of California industries. Aerospace could benefit from increasing insecurity among Russian and Chinese neighbors, since more countries will be inclined to increase their spending on defense, and to curry favor…

I dont understand If California voters Legalized Marijuana why is the state still busting people?
Our vote isn’t really important is it.
LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Authorities seized over 600 marijuana plants and arrested two people in connection with a large pot growing operation, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies Wednesday served a search warrant a home in the 23400 block of East Avenue K-8 in the Lake Los Angeles area and found the plants in residence and a detached garage.
“A large amount of harvested marijuana, a shotgun, and several thousand dollars in cash were also found within the residence,” officials said.
Jarret Gregory of Huntington Beach and Steven Devlin of Oceanside were arrested and charged with marijuana cultivation and sales.
PORT HUENEME (CBSLA.com) — Biologists Thursday were examining an endangered dead whale that floated into the port at the Port Hueneme naval base.
The 40-foot baby whale, believed to be a finback, appeared to have been dead for some time before floating into the harbor Wednesday afternoon, Vance Vasquez, Naval Base Ventura County spokesman , said.
When fully grown, the finback whales can reach up to 90 feet in length, the second longest in the world.
Vasquez said it may have been fatally struck by a ship.
Crews towed the animal to a nearby beach on the base where biologists from the National Marine Fisheries Service were trying to determine exactly how it died.
Once was examined, the whale will be towed out to sea 25 miles off shore.
How come people are so Stupid. How come stupid is allowed to have offspring? WHY?
PANORAMA CITY (CBSLA.com) — Police and health officials Thursday warned the public about the dangers of leaving a child alone in a hot vehicle following the death of a Sylmar toddler.
Representatives from LAPD Valley Traffic Division and Children’s Hospital used a display of two vehicles equipped with thermometers – one vehicle with the windows closed and one with the windows cracked open – to show how quickly temperatures can rise in such conditions.
Within 10 minutes, the temperature inside a vehicle can rise nearly 20 degrees, while in up to two hours, the inside of a car can become 45 to 50 degrees hotter, according to officials.
LAPD Detective Bill Bustos said that leaving the windows slightly cracked has very little effect on keeping vehicles cool.
“If the temperatures were to be up into the 80s today, it would be approximately 130 degrees inside,” Bustos said. “In direct sunlight…

What can we do. Los Angeles sucks all Californias water through the aquaduct. With a big portion of the colorado river. All goes to Los Angeles. Is everybody going to just hang around to make sure every river is dried up (like Little Lake and The small Community that L.A. dried out. This is what they are doing here in our small community. where we are already very dry with low pressure and drilling deeper wells is something we cant compete with next to the Multi Millions so our property rights (mineral rights) are nothing because L.A. is thirsty.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Federal drought monitors say 58 percent of California now is locked in their highest category of drought.
That ranking Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor marks a 22-percent, one-week jump in California territory suffering what monitors call “exceptional drought.”
Climate monitors say those latest figures show Northern California is in about as bad shape as the rest of the state in the now three-year drought.
Exceptional drought is classified as featuring widespread loss of crops and pasture. The category also signifies water shortages in streams and reservoirs severe enough to make for a water emergency.

I live really close to these condos back in 1989
LOMITA (CBSLA.com) — Residents of the Vista Verde condos in Lomita are seething about a nearby memorial park’s rooftop mausoleum.
The rooftop services, say the residents, are deadly on their property values, views and downright depressing.
“We’re sitting there eating brunch on the weekends, and we have people right outside our window crying their eyes out,” one condo owner told the Daily Breeze.
Residents told KCAL9’s Rachel Kim they’re dying for the funerals to move.
“I had an ocean view, which I don’t have anymore, and I used to see the lights,” condo resident Lane Mayhew told Kim.
For 26 years, Mayhew says she’s enjoyed the view from her balcony at Vista Verde. But she told Kim that all changed when Green Hills Memorial Park began holding funerals on the rooftop of their new mausoleum about 50 feet from her balcony.
“I’ve seen many funerals. They’ve brought the caskets up this…

From my Hometown in Los Angeles.
TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — It was a celebration of life 97 years in the making.
People in Torrance were remembering former Olympian, World War II POW and hometown hero Louis Zamperini Thursday.
The public memorial service was held at the Zamperini Stadium at Torrance High School, his alma mater, and included flyovers, a symbolic lap around the track and public addresses from the late hero’s family.
“He [had] 97 years of a life well-lived. We mourn him. But we also celebrate him,” son Luke Zamperini told KCAL9’s Juan Fernandez.
Zamperini, who died from pneumonia July 2, was a world-class distance runner by the time he graduated from Torrance High School. He later attended USC on a track scholarship, and at…

I recently set out on an adventure in Restoration & Refinishing. This poor dresser was so ugly looking I decided that would be a good first project since I couldn’t make it any uglier than it already was.
My kids helped me sand off the old stain and paint for about 35 seconds. They were good at not Momming me while I was sanding. They were afraid I would ask them for another 35 seconds of sanding I am positive.
It sanded very easily and the wood underneath the paint/stain was perfect for a quick stain and sealer coat. I cant wait to try my new found skill on other pieces of wood furnishings we have in storage.
Here are some before and after photos of Ugly to Super Model.
