LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Power was almost completely restored to thousands on Friday that were affected by the high winds, downed utility poles and power lines on Christmas.

The severe weather caused several trees to fall across the Southland area, leaving damage to several neighborhoods, and in some cases, trapping residents in their homes.

According to Southern California Edison officials, power had been restored to all but 110 customers of the nearly affected 5,600 people that lost power in Irvine on Thursday.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power officials reported Thursday evening that outages were reduced to about 500 customers. They originally estimated 11,500 residents were without power due to weather related issues.

Hawthorne, Santa Clarita, Inglewood, Granada Hills, Lawndale, Hollywood Hills, Echo Park, Century City and Westwood were a few areas that were affected by the outages.

Strong winds are expected to continue throughout the afternoon, meteorologists explained.
