Arming the Fleet: The Compelling Story of a Secret Navy Base in the Desert

Its good to see taxpaying citizens working and spending taxpayers dollars wisely. The wisdom of the no fly zone – not the wisdom of petroglyphs!

Government Book Talk

Arlington Cemetery Veterans day posterIn honor of Veterans’ Day, we bring you a compelling story of China Lake, which answers the intriguing question, why would the U.S. Navy build a secret weapons base in the middle of the Mojave Desert? (Answer: It was the least likely place the enemy would look for a naval base!)

Nothing is more enjoyable than reading a well-written history book that brings to light the contributions of a highly secretive organization. Add in dozens of previously unpublished photographs and fascinating anecdotes of American technological innovation and ingenuity, and you have a real winner! Such is the case with the new fact and photo-filled publication about the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division or NAWCWD, entitled Arming the Fleet 1943-2011: Providing Our Warfighters the Decisive Advantage. The weapons systems developed by NAWCWD in China Lake have served generations of service members since World War…

What if we lost our 2nd Amendment?

The most controversial of all our liberties.

Back in the the roaring 20’s you could own a gun but it was a crime to drink beer.

Imagine if prohibition came to our neighborhoods in the form of our right to bear arms?  Would we revolt? become civil rights activists?

More young black adults are killed by police excessive force in the 20th century after the 90’s saw all kinds of new technology for police to arm themselves with equipment that would allow them to subdue a criminal without lethal force – Firing their guns.

They were also armed with bullet proof vests.  What sort of Hypocrisy is this? I am so outraged at all the murder by our local law enforcement protected under the power of our Justice system. Maybe if we take away all the vests, tasers, bean bags, air guns, batons and leave them feeling naked again like in the 80’s the hypocrites will quit their jobs. I have never seen a hypocrite naked. No longer will they feel invincible to any and all injustices especially their own.

They can keep their guns for their own protection against the bad guys. And once again they will be more like us average citizens. No non lethal submissiveness and bullet proof delusions of grandeur.

How else do they think they will earn the peoples respect once again. Against all odds

The 20th century where priests are the pedophiles and cops are the murderers.

What could possibly go wrong next?     Wait and see….  The media will be sure to

over report whatever it is.

Radio 101: Operating Two-Way Radios Every Day and in Emergencies

Who wants to be cut off in an emergency

Government Book Talk

When-all-else-fails-amateur-radioTwo-way radio communication may seem like a thing of the past with smart phones and the availability of more advanced technology. However, with the recent frequency of natural disasters, storms, and other emergency situations, more attention is being paid to radios as a reliable form of communication and a possible back-up communication option, including amateur radio operators.

For example, the Times of Indiareports that the recent monsoon flooding disaster in the northern India state of Uttarakhand in July 2013 has prompted officials in other flood-prone regions to establish Amateur Radio facilities to provide emergency communication.

What are two-way radios and how do they work?

According to Wikipedia,

A two-way radio is a radio that can both transmit and receive (a transceiver), unlike a broadcast receiver which only receives content…

Space Exploration and the Mind

wow what a research project

Government Book Talk

Many years ago I read “Ideas Die Hard,” a memorable story (at least to me) by Isaac Asimov. In the story, a crew of astronauts is on a flight to the moon under very tense circumstances. They go too far and see the dark side of the moon. SPOILER AHEAD: When they view the dark side, it’s a gigantic wood-and-paper stage set, the sight of which causes the crew to have a collective mental breakdown. At the end of the story, it’s revealed that the flight was a simulation and the simulator went just a bit further than intended. I think the story has stayed with me because it addresses the psychological dimensions of space exploration – an aspect I haven’t really seen addressed in news accounts or books.

NASA has filled this gap quite nicely with Psychology of Space Exploration, an engrossing new collection of articles on this theme…

MOJAVE (2015): New Trailer Starring Garrett Hedlund & Oscar Isaac

Some very handsome guys in Mojave

The Movie My Life

MOJAVE (2015), Garrett Hedlund MOJAVE (2015), Garrett Hedlund

In the latest thriller starring Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund, I noticed a few things…

Written and directed by William Monahan, it’s the choice of music that stood out first and not necessarily in a bad way.

I like aspects of the editing and the bass in Hedland’s voice. Though, I am a  tad concerned by what seems to be excessive usage of the word ‘brother.’

My fingers are crossed that Mojave works. Hedlund’s character is interesting to me. I just wonder what the final conclusion will be on Isaac’s performance.

Mark Wahlberg and Dania Ramirez also star.

Release Date (s): January 22nd, 2016 (US)…

Happy Film Loving
